Saluting the Doctors of Basavanagudi

Spread the love

Vintage Salute is a unique photo exhibition that commemorates and honours the doctors who practiced in Basavanagudi from the 1940s to the 1980s.

This weekend, take a trip down memory lane at a photo exhibition that celebrates the doctors of yore from Basavanagudi, a locality that is steeped in heritage and culture. Close on the heels of Doctors’ Day on July 1, this is a unique exhibition that promises you some sepia tinted action.

The photo exhibit is the brainchild of Maya Chandra, Founder-Director, Maya Films, a passionate history enthusiast and resident of Basavanagudi who hit upon the idea of this project. Inspired by the compassionate care provided by doctors during her childhood, Chandra decided to pay tribute to the unsung heroes of the area and aptly called it Vintage Salute

With this solid research in place, the exhibition has about 70 photos on display, and the stories of the doctors shine through each exhibit. What is endearing about the show is that it is a tribute to doctors who have been visionary and ahead of their time.

From allopathy and homeopathy to ayurveda and mental health, the exhibition celebrates doctors from diverse fields. The best part is that many of the families are carrying forward their medical legacies. Check it out – you will return a proud Bangalorean!
