Enjoying a spa experience in the midst of the ocean on the Genting Dream Cruise Liner at the Crystal Life Asia Spa is the best way to invigorate your senses.

“Would you like to visit the spa?” asked my host aboard the cruise liner Genting Dream. And these words sounded like music to my ears. Well, after a rather long haul connecting flight to Singapore and no sleep, I was completely tired and a niggling headache did not help either. So my instant reaction was to nod in agreement and soon I found myself at Deck 5 at the reception of the Crystal Life Asia Spa. The brown and beige hued interiors at the reception and the wafting aroma from the spa had a calming effect on me immediately. I was asked to fill out a consultation form stating details including preexisting medical conditions as well as body parts where focus was required. After this my therapist Mary from Philippines ushered me through a labyrinth of rooms to the changing section and am asked to change into a shorts and top. After this I am lead into a large area with rows of large chairs and soon I settle into one. Mary leaves me for a few minutes and I am completely in awe of space. Well after all this is the largest reflexology lounge at sea spread over 1000 sqm with 100 extremely comfortable chairs, complete with an iPad for entertainment!

I choose the 75 minute Foot, Shoulder and Neck Massage (SGD 65 plus 15% service charge) and Mary soon came back with a trolley with copper vessels. Pulling out a small seater, she asks me to sit on that and immerses my feet into a large copper bowl filled with warm water and sea salt and cleans my feet and the massage feels delicious. After patting my feet dry, she asks me to get back to the lounge chair and starts to massage my feet one at a time. The cream used in the massage is also made in-house by Crystal Life Spa. Using a combination of Chinese foot reflexology and Chinese therapeutic acupressure treatment techniques, she instantly releases all the strain in my muscles. After this she uses similar techniques for the back and shoulders where her synchronized movements ensure that all my tiredness vanishes almost magically. Interestingly, this massage is done seated and on the clothes which makes it different. What is also the differentiator is the masseur’s hand movements – long strokes, circular movements, vibration, tapping and kneading that accord complete relaxation. As part of the spa treatment, the Sauna, Steam, Vitality Pool, Thermal Lounger and Relaxation Lounge can also be used, so it is ideal to arrive at the spa an hour before to make the most of your time here. After the treatment I am asked to try the fruit buffet – an assortment of whole and cut fruits and freshly squeezed fruit juices. Now that is holistic wellness – that heals and nurtures the body and soul.
