Spread the love

The festival of lights is here! Yes it’s Diwali and it is time to light up your home with the festive vibe.

One of India’s most awaited and much loved festivals is here and this is also the perfect time to give your home a festive makeover. And fret not, for this is neither difficult nor does it take a lot of time. So here are some handy tips to give your home a quick and easy Diwali makeover.

Go Green

The fundamental premise of Diwali is all about joy, celebration and togetherness. And what better way to do this than add a dash of green? Using planters for Diwali makeover is a very creative yet an easy task. “We light traditional candles and diyas at this time and carrying this essence forward there are multiple options of planters that can be done creatively from the resources that are usually available within your own homes. For example, well-polished brass utensils, well-finished oval painted terracotta utensils and iron utensils are all very creative ways of planters,” says Shabnam Singh, Founder, Project Co. Ekta Doctor, Designer & Founder, WonkyWorks avers, “give up the ugly plastic pots and artificial flowers. There is a reason plants exist, they provide us with precious oxygen which is basically life. Our range of upcycled glass planters and vases are upcycled and good enough to keep for life.”

Twist of Tradition

Paper Mache vases, jewelry boxes or lamps add an ethnic look to your homes. The beautiful floral motifs and unique patterns can instantly add the festive touch to your home décor. Saddam Zaroo, Managing Director Khazir Sons says, “enhance your room by adding a beautiful hand knotted silk carpet under a piece of ethnic furniture or a coffee table. Carpets add a different look and feel to your home, making it look grand and adding a touch of elegance and grace to it. Jewel or Crewel carpets could be added as well by framing them up on the wall, the beauty of the fabric along with the precious gems and needle work is sure to catch ones eye and be the talk this festive season.”

Do it Yourself

Festivities mean fun and colour and if you want to decorate your home on your own without damaging your walls, you have a fantastic option. 3M India has a Command Wall Rangoli for the exact same purpose. “Identify a space on the wall inside your home, and wipe it with an alcohol-based solution. Make 18 small dots on the wall and place 1 “Command Decor Clip” on each dot using the Command Clear Strips included in the pack. Fasten your decorative item like flowers / Fairy Lights onto the Decor Clips and connect the dots to create your own Rangoli as shown in the video at 0.17 seconds. Switch off/ dim down the lights in the room to see the magic – Your DIY Wall Rangoli with Command is ready.” When you decide to remove Command’s Wall Rangoli, simply unwind the decoration, use the Stretch-Release Mechanism to remove the Décor Clips and get going with a wall as good as new!

Accessorize Right

Diwali is a time you deck up your homes and make it an abode that is extremely warm and inviting. Choose from silver decorative figurines, glass lanterns and bowls, decorative candle stands, glass holders, wall plates, photo frames and lot more. Anu Kumar, Founder, Mora Taara, said “Identifying the trend of Diwali gifting amongst corporates, families and friends, we are presenting an eclectic range of products that fits for everyone. From embracing the eccentric to going traditional, we at Mora Taara go the contemporary and minimalistic way in all senses. We hope to make Mora Taara a part of your personal choice.”

Let there be light

Create twinkly and cozy corners this Diwali and do up just one or two corners to create a stunning impact. Decide what you would like the focus of that corner to be. “A light source is an obvious choice. At Mora Taara, we love to hang these Start T light holders in clusters of three or five. The bright pink colors of the shimmery glass look beautiful even when these are not lit. Underneath these, you can place an urli filled with flowers. Another idea that always works is to place lanterns or candles in multiples on a coffee table or a sideboard. If you have large lanterns place them on different heights on the floor and low stools. Create a mood-setting by placing lit candles both inside and outside the lanterns. Add pebbles and tiny plants to complete the look,” says Anu.

Re-arrange your furniture

Move your furniture around and let the sofa be closer to the wall and table in the centre. You can also use ethnic inspired cushions, throws, screens in wood or metal and hanging lanterns to make your space look more festive without altering your furniture. “Use lots of cushions and sofas dressed in a mix match of colours. You could opt for an ottoman instead of a centre table to give a spacious vibe to your space. Use traditionally vibrant or bold colours to add in a festive effect to your home. Ochre, lime green and crimson red are the ideal colours to enhance and jazz up any space,” says Sarabjit Singh, Founder and Architectural Designer, Villa Ortiga Design Studio. So this Diwali, light up your home décor too and welcome the festivities in style.
