Kotagiri might be one of the towns in the Nilgiri Biosphere that is relatively lesser known but is quite a gem in itself. While there are several sights that will entice you, I fell in love with the charming town thanks to its vibrant bird life. And what better way to discover this than by a stay at the charming Tea Nest Nightingale in Kotagiri? The newest addition to the portfolio of Nature Resort this boutique property has four rooms named after birds – Scarlet Minivet, Hoopoe, Emerald Dove and Magpie Robin.

Being a keen birder, I was quite thrilled to check into the delightful two storied Scarlet Minivet room that is also dotted with pictures of this beautiful bird. The red male and yellow female Scarlet Minivet is a stunning bird and among my favourites. The resort is set amidst verdant tea plantations and is surrounded by lush greenery which makes it a haven for birds. Here are some birds I saw on a recent trip here:
