It’s important for someone who want to start birding in India, to know and understand what he/she is looking for.  Amateur birders are advised to not avoid the most common areas as they help to identify birds. It is also very important to understand the physical structure of the species to identify and remember. 

For pro birders, India is a vast land of opportunities. It’s important to read and choose wisely what you are looking for decide locations accordingly. Once the guest is with us, we give them a sense of what all they can do, guide them through the process; once they know what they’re looking for, the binoculars and books come out next.

Education institutes also take trips to nearby wildlife sanctuaries, giving young children exposure to nature.  We are seeing a shift in the new generation choosing birding as a hobby and wanting to excel at it.  Being tech savvy helps in record keeping, tracking, data sharing and monitoring, making the entire process even more interesting and scientific.

The first and foremost advise is patience. Birding requires all your senses to be alive [be present now, be conscious of your surroundings. Read about the area and species it offers, that will help you to look better and find better. Carry a good pair of binoculars and being camouflaged helps [avoid brighter clothes and gears]. For photography, minimum movement will allow you to observe the sighting in a better way and for long and a tripod works for better focus.

To optimize birdwatching in unknown forested areas, it is crucial to utilize binoculars or spotting scopes for enhanced observation. Joining forces with a local bird watcher proves invaluable, as their regional expertise aids in navigating unfamiliar territories and spotting rare species. Essential items for the expedition include bird field guides, ample water, and snacks. Wearing earthly-coloured attire ensures a low impact on the environment and minimizes bird disturbance.
